Flora

Because of a large area, its position within Slovakia, previous glaciations, a high altitude, various substrate and many relief forms the National Park Low Tatras belongs to territories with the highest number of plant species in Slovakia. Due to its botanical values a part of the territory was proclaimed a significant botanical territory of Slovakia /VÚB, IPA/ that is designated as the most valuable floristic site of a country by the organisation PlantLife.

The flora of the National Park Low Tatras includes mainly mountainous species but also alpine plant species. Some thermopile and xerophylous plants also penetrate the territories nearby the river Hron /a little less the river Váh/.
